runway obstacle-free zone

runway obstacle-free zone
A defined volume of airspace centered above the runway whose elevation at any point is the same as the elevation of the nearest point on the runway centerline. The runway obstacle-free zone (OFZ) extends 200 ft beyond each end of the runway. The width of this zone for runways serving large airplanes is either 400 ft or 180 ft plus the wingspan of the most demanding airplane plus 20 ft per 1000 ft of airport elevation. For runways serving only small airplanes, the OFZ is 300 ft for precision instrument runways, 250 ft for other runways serving small airplanes with an approach speed of 50 knots or more, and 120 ft if the approach speed is less than 50 knots.
